Terms of use

These terms apply to hanopen.com and the tools provided on this site. Please read them before using the service. They take effect on 8 September 2026.

The service and its operator

HanOpen is a free set of browser document tools operated by Tani. No account or paid subscription is required. Each tool page describes its supported scope and limitations. Inquiries are accepted at the email address on the contact page, without a guaranteed response time or resolution. The service can change and may be interrupted by maintenance or faults.

Use at your own risk

You use HanOpen at your own risk, and checking the result is your responsibility. A converted document may differ from the original: the page layout is not reproduced, some elements are simplified and some are replaced by a placeholder. Read the conversion summary that appears after each conversion and compare the output against the source before you rely on it, submit it, sign it or forward it.

Do not use unchecked output where a mistake would matter: filings, contracts, medical and legal documents, applications with a deadline. Keep the original file.

Documents you may convert

Convert only documents you are entitled to use, copy and adapt. Holding those rights is your responsibility, as is complying with the law that applies to you, including copyright, any duty of confidentiality you are under, and the rules of any organisation whose documents you handle. Because the conversion happens on your own device and nothing is uploaded, that responsibility rests with you alone.

Protected documents

HanOpen does not remove technical protection measures. Distribution documents, password protected documents and DRM protected documents are detected and refused rather than unlocked, and the site will not take a password for that purpose. Do not use this site, or anything produced by it, to get around a protection on a document. If you need such a file in another format, obtain an unrestricted copy from the person or organisation that produced it.

No warranty

The site and its tools are provided as they are and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non infringement. Nothing here promises that a conversion will succeed, that output will be complete or correct, or that the site will be reachable at any given moment.

Limits on liability

So far as the law allows, the operator of HanOpen is not liable for loss or damage arising from use of the site or of anything it produces, including lost or altered documents, lost time, lost profit and consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Acceptable use

Do not disrupt the site or the network it runs on, do not scrape it in a way that degrades it for other people, and do not present it as a service of your own. Converting personal and work documents alike is free and unmetered; republishing the pages themselves is a different matter and is not permitted without agreement.

Trademarks

HWP and HWPX are trademarks of Hancom Inc. HanOpen is an independent project, not affiliated with Hancom Inc and not endorsed by it. Other product names on the site belong to their respective owners and are used only to describe compatibility.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Korea, and the courts of the Republic of Korea have jurisdiction over disputes arising out of them. Any mandatory consumer protection right you hold where you live is unaffected.

Changes to these terms

These terms can change. The current version always sits on this page with its effective date, and continuing to use the site after a change means accepting the new version. A change that materially alters what you may do with the site is written into the section it affects rather than hidden behind a version number.

Analytics preferences

Google Analytics measures page visits and document conversion counts, without filenames or document text. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, analytics cookies require your acceptance; elsewhere they can be used before you choose. Declining switches measurement to cookieless signals. Your choice is valid for 180 days and can be changed here. Every tool works with analytics declined.
